How ETERNA optimised its ERP documents through a strategic partnership with Allgeier Inovar and Lasernet

With over 160 years of experience, ETERNA is a renowned Bavarian fashion brand specialising in high-quality shirts and blouses. The company operates around 50 retail stores and a thriving B2C web shop, and has extensive connections to retail companies.

In 2021, ETERNA began migrating from a proprietary ERP system to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365FO). While this transition brought exciting opportunities, it also presented the company with new challenges – particularly with regard to processing dynamic, high-quality document output in a fast-paced digital retail environment.

To overcome these challenges, ETERNA needed a solution that could connect systems, process complex document logic and be implemented quickly. After evaluating several third-party options, Lasernet emerged as the clear choice – especially with Allgeier Inovar as a trusted implementation partner.

The challenges of ERP documents

Julian Nieter, ETERNA's internal consultant for D365FO, explained: "The introduction of D365FO to replace the previous proprietary ERP solution in mid-2021 gave us the opportunity to redesign the forms. However, as a premium provider in the fashion industry, we also wanted to exchange premium forms with our customers."

An additional challenge was the connection to various marketplaces such as Amazon, Zalando and Otto, as well as the fact that some of the information for the forms does not come from D365FO at all, but from an external product information management system (PIM). All of this had to be implemented quickly and within a short period of time. Premium forms that dynamically load data from other systems and flexibly adapt the layout for the marketplaces cannot be created with reasonable effort and in the time available using Microsoft's standard SSRS solution.

Julian continued: "After taking a close look at the various third-party solutions, we chose Lasernet because we were particularly impressed by its full integration with D365FO, including a query wizard – we know from our selection process that this is very unusual for a system that is supposed to create and output ERP documents.

You could say, 'Lasernet speaks Dynamics!' – and you can see that in the implementation!

We were also impressed by the powerful and flexible designer tool, which allowed us to insert information into the forms, including images and text from our external PIM. Thanks to Lasernet, it was also possible to quickly meet completely different layout requirements for different marketplaces with a single Dynamics report.

Without Lasernet, the reports would have had to be programmed by our Dynamics partner, which would have been extremely time-consuming and laborious; with Lasernet, ETERNA's in-house consultants were able to do this themselves."

The implementation, led by Allgeier Inovar, went smoothly from the start: "Allgeier Inovar installed and configured Lasernet quickly and without any problems, and at the same time provided a ready-made workflow – so thanks to the excellent technical training, we had the basis to carry out the implementation. With the help of regular meetings, we then achieved our goal on schedule together with Allgeier Inovar," added Julian.

In addition, it converts data structures, integrates other third-party systems and then takes care of the fully automated and secure distribution of forms and data such as e-invoices/ZUGFeRD to business partners via all industry-standard interfaces. It is a modular output management workbench that is immediately ready for use with D365FO and at the same time offers you full flexibility for whatever the future may bring."

Looking to the future

The collaboration between ETERNA and Lasernet is continuing, and there are already plans for further use cases.

Julian outlines their vision as follows: "We will also use Lasernet to create electronic data structures and output JSON files via the REST API – printing on special label printers for sewn-in labels is also planned. Lasernet is growing with us and enables us to respond flexibly and quickly to market requirements."
