Grouping and Sequencing Product Data in Dynamics 365 Documents

Orders and product documents often need a business-specific sequence rather than the order in which Dynamics 365 returns the data. Grouping, totals, headers and page breaks may depend on product family, shipment, location or another operational rule.

The Challenge: Raw Dynamics Data Is Not Presentation-Ready

Without document-specific grouping and sorting, recipients receive long lists that are difficult to read or operationally out of sequence. Manual reordering is not practical for high-volume sales, warehouse and product documents.

The Lasernet Approach: Structuring Data with the Query Wizard

The Lasernet Query Wizard is used to retrieve the required Dynamics 365 tables and fields, join related data, apply filters and ranges, and define multi-level grouping or sorting before the data reaches the document design. The template can then calculate subtotals and present each section in the order the business process requires.

Why It Matters

The benefits are clear:

  • Readability: related products, headers and totals are presented together
  • Accuracy: the sequence is produced from governed query rules rather than manual editing
  • Maintainability: administrators can adjust the data structure through the Query Wizard instead of rebuilding the document manually

Use the Query Wizard to Put Data in Business Order

Combining the Query Wizard with the Lasernet template turns raw Dynamics 365 transaction lines into documents that are easier to use, check and act on.
