Enriching Packing Slips with Tracking Data After Posting

Some shipment information does not exist when the ERP posts the original transaction. Carrier tracking numbers or final route details may arrive later but still need to appear on the document sent to the customer.

The Challenge: Posted Documents Can Be Missing Late-Bound Data

If the packing slip is distributed immediately, it may omit the tracking information the recipient needs. Reopening or editing the posted ERP transaction is not a practical solution.

The Lasernet Approach: Post-Posting Data Enrichment

Lasernet can pause or continue the document workflow after posting, retrieve tracking data from an external source and enrich the packing slip before final distribution. The same orchestration principle used for e-invoicing can complete other business documents with late-arriving information.

Why It Matters

The benefits are clear:

  • Completeness: the customer receives the tracking detail with the shipment document
  • Automation: external data is added without manual document editing
  • ERP integrity: the workflow enriches the output without changing the posted transaction

Complete the Document After the Transaction

Late-bound enrichment helps organisations keep ERP posting and customer communication aligned even when the final data arrives at different times.
