Lasernet Use Cases

Unifying Label Printing Across Dynamics 365 and MES Systems

Written by Lasernet | 26 February 2026

Manufacturing environments rarely rely on a single system. When ERP and Manufacturing Execution Systems operate side by side, document workflows often become fragmented. Label printing is a common casualty, with different systems producing different outputs for the same physical process.

The Challenge: Duplicate Label Logic Across Systems

In one manufacturing scenario, a customer needed to print identical labels from both Dynamics 365 and a separate MES. The obvious approach involved complex data transfers and print requests flowing from MES to ERP and then into Lasernet. This added technical overhead and created multiple points of failure.

Maintaining consistent label designs across systems was also a challenge, requiring duplicated templates and separate printer configurations.

The Lasernet Approach: Direct MES Integration

Instead of forcing data through Dynamics 365, a simplified workflow was introduced. Print requests were sent directly from the MES into Lasernet, bypassing the ERP entirely for this use case.

With lightweight XML transformations, a single label layout was created that worked for both Dynamics 365 and MES data structures. The same printer connections were shared across workflows, meaning printer management was centralised and consistent regardless of the source system.

Why It Matters

The benefits are clear:
  • Simplicity: fewer integrations and fewer moving parts
  • Consistency: one label design used across multiple systems
  • Efficiency: shared printer management reduces operational overhead

One Label, One Process

By positioning Lasernet as a shared document and print layer, manufacturers can unify outputs across ERP and MES environments. The result is cleaner architecture, easier maintenance, and consistent production-floor execution.
